Ahoy Friends,
I am trying to crash study for my Marketing mid-term tomorrow, but wanted to take a break from being super studious to find out what Australians like to drink other than beer. I mean I love beer don’t get me wrong, but there are days when you just want to mix it up a bit.
Well, hooray for Bundaberg! What’s Bundaberg, you ask? Well, it is a full-bodied rum that will tempt your taste buds!
In 1888, a bunch of sugarcane farmers from a district of Queensland joined forces to create a little co-op called the Bundaberg Distilling Company. The farmers converted leftover stockpiles of molasses from their sugar refining mills into high quality rum. Why the name Bundaberg? The name of the town where Bundaberg Rum was produced was called Bundaberg (no-brainer). The area was surveyed and named by J.C. Thompson and A.D. Edwards in 1870. Two years later the town grew to 200 folks looking to work in the local sawmill and corn production. All went well until the timber ran short and the pests and disease took over the corn. That is when sugar cane was introduced as an experiment, and prospered. Over a hundred years later, Bundaberg Rum is still being produced in Bundaberg; and still famous for its great taste and quality. It is also recognized by many Australians as their proud national spirit. Drinkers of the popular “Bundy” are known to be “louder, more boisterous and lecherous than aficionados of fine Cognac.”
Well, forget studying, show me to the party! I’ll have a Bundy, Please!
