Here’s a question for you…what came first, the chicken or the egg? Here’s another question for you..what came first, Oz (Australia) or The Wizard of Oz?

In 1900, L. Frank Baum wrote The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz. This book was such a success that it was made into a Broadway musical in 1902, called The Wizard of Oz. The adventures of Dorothy in the Land of Oz was so popular that Baum continued to write and publish another 13 books - the Oz series.

So the question here is…could Baum have been influenced by the magical land of Australia? Apparently Oz is known as an island continent west of California with a great desert region…so…?

I think this is a no-brainer, but just in case you like solid references, some critics state that in Baum’s third book called Ozma in Oz, a little Dorothy travels on a steamship with her Uncle Henry to Australia. Dorothy gets thrown overboard with a chicken called Billina…but that is beside the point.

So there you have it. But just in case you’re at a party and there isn’t much to talk about with the dude sitting on the couch next to you, you can always ask …what came first, Oz or Ozzy Ozbourne?
