Ahoy friends,
Today, the Great Barrier Reef and I had a little competition to see who will make the best caretaker for THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD - who could stare the longest at one another without blinking. Here is how it all went down….
Marcella: Ok, GBR get ready to ruuummmble!
GBR: This isn’t wrestling Marcella, it’s a staring contest!
Marcella: Oh, I get it GBR…you want to intimidate me from the get go with your smart comments…
GBR: Ok, yeah whatever! Let’s start by setting some ground rules before you try and cheat a win!
Marcella: I think it is pretty simple. We look each other straight in the eyes until one of us blinks or looks away.
GBR: Ok, but you can’t make stupid faces to make me laugh.
Marcella: And you can’t distract me with all of your crazy antics!
GBR: Ok, ready?
Marcella: Wait a minute…I think you have too many eyes looking at me!
GBR: Marcella, I am the Great Barrier Reef, what did you expect, a single gaze?
Marcella: GO!
GBR: No fair, I wasn’t ready! I think we need to go by the National Professional Staredown Competition rules!
Marcella: With all those eyes from 1500 different fish, at least one of you had to be ready?!
GBR: Listen, let’s just get this over with.
Marcella: Ready….GO!
GBR: YOU BLINKED! That wasn’t even 2 seconds! What’s wrong with you?
Marcella: NO FAIR…salt water hurts my eyes! Rats, I guess I’m not a “Staredown Sally” after all.

Oooh… you’ll get to master the rules of beach cricket… naaa, that would take more than 6 months…. (hint - there are two batsmen on the field)
And you’ll discover that there is Hockey and Ice Hockey.
Four codes of football played weekly. It makes the Finals season quite hectic.
Latest news is that three shark attacks in Sydney in the past week have caused organisers to cancel a big swim.
“The spate of shark attacks and shark sightings in Sydney has forced organisers to cancel a popular ocean swim, amid fears the water could be too “bitey”.
“About 300 people were expected to swim in the 11-kilometre Bridge to Beach race from the Harbour Bridge to Manly Wharf on March 15.
“But it was cancelled after a flurry of queries from concerned entrants.

I love the idea of ‘bitey’ water, don’t you?
