Tim Tam Slam

Ahoy all!

Seeing that today is Friday, we need to get ready to “PARTY!!!” And there is no one better to invite to the party than those Australians. Australians really know how to party, and I need to get into the Australian psyche if I am to win “The Best Job in the World.”

Apparently Australians like to party with cookies, a.k.a. biscuits. The preferred biscuit is called the Tim Tam, or Bicki for short. A Tim Tam is a thick coated chocolate cookie with a double gooey chocolate layered wafer inside. There are many different varieties of this biscuit, including Tim Tam Classic Dark or Love Potion-Chocoloate Mud. But that’s beside the point.

So, what’s a Tim Tam Slam? Well, it’s using the famous Tim Tam of Arnott’s biscuit as a straw to sip your coffee or hot chocolate. What’s the big deal, you ask? Just ask an Australian; it’s a delicious device to suck up your hot drink. But wouldn’t it just all fall apart into a soggy mess? Well, there is some logic to this madness, and I am here to explain how to drink a hot beverage with a Tim Tam.

How to correctly drink a hot beverage with a Tim Tam:

1. Find a package of Tim Tams and open it.

2. Look inside the Tim Tams package and wonder why there are an uneven number of 11 Tim Tams inside.

3. Take a Tim Tam and take a small bite off of one corner.

4. Then take a small bite off of the opposite corner.

5. Put a corner of the Tim Tam into the hot beverage spiked with Bailey’s.

6. Use the Tim Tam like a straw, sucking up all the melted goodness from inside the Tim Tam.

7. Shovel the Tim Tam into your mouth and eat the Tim Tam before it disintegrates.

8. Brag to your friends that you have succeeded in a classic Australian Tim Tam Slam.

Just a tip…don’t drink tea with a Tim Tam, otherwise some Australians will get annoyed with this British version of a Tim Tam Slam.

Hi Marcella… you’re going all out here! You deserve the job, no doubt.

Another famous Aussie biscuit is the Anzac biscuit. Traditionally, these are home made wholesome goodies featuring oatmeal and treacle. Originally, they were made by wives, sisters and girlfriends for their blokes who were off in Europe fighting WWI. The recipe gives a tasty sweet treat that keeps well (as you can imagine the long sea voyage from Australia to Europe in 1914). Now, of course you can buy brand name Anzacs at the supermarket.

I’d love to see your spin on the Anzac biscuit. I think you should make some and post pics!

Here’s a recipe..

*sigh* you’d better do Lamingtons too (sponge cake wrapped in chocolate icing and coconut) and Pavlova (a dessert featuring meringue, fruit and cream).

Go to it Gurrrl!
