Earth Hour

switch-off-your-lights

Ahoy fellow earthlings,

Over the past year there has been serious political action-jackson all around the world…but there is one more campaign worth your vote, and this vote matters most! So what are we signing you up for this time? EARTH, silly!

So how do you vote? It’s easy! To vote for EARTH all you have to do is switch off your lights for 1 hour! Yup, that’s right, from 8:30-9:30pm tonight the world will try and turn off all their lights to give mother earth a break. Isn’t it easy to love our EARTH?

EARTH needs 1 billion votes to win this election against global warming. The results will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen to prove that people the world over care about their environment. “This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol.” (www.earthhour.org)

Turn off your lights, computer, TV, stereo, blender, toaster, and your cell phone for EARTH. Give yourself a break too…light some candles and detach from technology for 1 hour…common you can do it! You might even have time to play hookey….

Vote Earth! Switch off your lights for Earth Hour!

“Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.”

Clothes Horse

Ahoy all,

As a girl who loves fashion, I thought it high time to find out about Australian high fashion. I consulted an Aussie friend of mine to give me a few pointers on where to start the search…apparently for most Aussie girls it all begins with your first Dolly Magazine.

In 1970, Dolly Magazine launched its first issue of fashion advice, celebrity gossip and beauty tips. Almost 40 years later, Dolly Magazine is still one of the leading Australian monthly teen magazines with more than 400 issues under their belt and a readership of over 500,000. Dolly even inspired American magazine Sassy in the late 80’s, anyone remember Sassy?

Dolly must be doing something right; especially if they could last through the fashion faux pas of the 80’s and early 90’s! Now, I wonder…do you think country singer and fashion icon Dolly Parton reads Dolly?

Here’s a glimpse of what kind of stuff I like…it might be a little hard to pull off with a backpack, but once in a while a girl just wants to be a girl!

Michel Meets Minogue

gondry-in-bed

Ahoy all,

Has anyone ever asked you, “if you could meet anyone in the world, who’d you wanna meet?” Well, I have asked myself that question several times and I would love to meet Michel Gondry!

So why in the world would I want to meet a Frenchman (who has won a 2004 Academy Award for Best Original Scene Play for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, worked with Bjork, Beck, Rolling Stones, White Stripes, Radiohead, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and Kayne West)?

Easy! Because he is the most inventive filmaker and videographer out there. Plus, who wouldn’t want to meet someone that can solve the impossible Rubix Cube with his nose!?

But what does Michel Gondry have to do with Australia, you ask?

Well he is such a rad director that famous Australian born pop singer Kylie Minogue got him to work his magic for one of her music videos. Watch how Kylie walks around a city block 4 times and meets herself each time, plus the extras doing something unique each time round as well. Here’s what is so phenomenal about this video -  it was all shot in one take. It’ll blow your mind!

Nubsy McNoodle and Bullfrog

Nubsy McNoodle and Bullfrog

Ahoy friends,

Get this…I was contacted by Zia Grace, an Australian children’s book writer to collaborate with her on a possible animation project! What a compliment! I realize more and more that my one minute animation for the BEST JOB is really appealing to a huge age group. How cool is that?

On Zia Graces’ website she answers a couple of questions that I would like to share with you. This gal rocks - she writes, she travels and she loves kids!

As a child, which book impressed you most?
Horton Hatches the Egg, by Dr. Seuss. I just loved the integrity of that elephant - no matter what… he meant what he said and he said what he meant… an elephant’s faithful one hundred percent!

To which literary character do you most relate?
At the moment, Wonder Woman! I am a one-woman show - author, publisher, creative director, production manager, marketing and sales manager - not to mention a wife, sister, daughter and aunt!

If your life were a novel, who would it be written by?
Danielle Steele and Stephen King – a good mix of romance, drama… and HORROR! … it ends like a fairy tale though.

When did you decide to become a writer?
I didn’t really decide. Nubsy came to me like a dream - I got out of bed to write it after staying at my friend’s house whose children are nicknamed Nubsy and Bullfrog - my inspiration. It was only after I had decided to publish Nubsy that other ideas came to me in the form of inspired thought (often in the middle of the night). Literally, within 6 months after writing Nubsy, I wrote another 4 books which are all currently in production. The flood gates opened!

Where would you like to travel, but haven’t yet visited?
Machu Picchu in Peru, and the Egyptian Pyramids.

What inspires you?
Young children - I love their energy, joy and sense of wonder. They inspire me to be fresh in my way of thinking, as they are not shaped or moulded by any lessons they have yet to learn in life. There is a sense of purity and innocence, that I try to maintain in myself.

Which super power would you love to have?
I would love to fly! Being invisible would also be handy.

Who are your favourite authors?
Dr. Seuss – without a doubt!

La La Land

Ahoy all,

I thought I would give you all a little taste of what kind of photographer I am. If Queensland is looking for someone to creatively capture and promote the Great Barrier Reef…I hope to be the gal to do it!

Here are a few shots from my trip to Los Angeles this past weekend.
